The Fox: Daylesford’s 16th century quintessential country inn

BY ARCHIE CAWTHRA

The Fox is a 19th century British inn nestled in the Gloucestershire countryside. It is a village pub at the heart of the community with crackling log fires and a welcoming bar specialising in local beers and cocktails. The menu celebrates local producers including their sister farms at Daylesford Organic and Wootton.

Bedroom interiors are inspired by the surrounding countryside with a spacious Coachman’s House opposite for larger groups. The menu celebrates exceptional ingredients from their sister farms alongside seasonal produce from British growers and producers.

Enjoy small plates with a craft beer by the fire in the bar or be tempted by the menu in their relaxed and welcoming Saddle Room.

Stay

The rooms are individually designed, each inspired by the surrounding countryside. Elements of raw materials reflect rural habitats, whilst bronze finishes nod to equestrian influences and luxurious, natural linens compliment views over a wildflower roof top. All the rooms have the finest linen sheets, organic cotton bath robes and towels, as well as mattresses, toppers and pillows of the finest quality.

The six rooms are individually furnished and each one is a refined sanctuary. Our favourite is the Den, decorated in earthy shades the colour of storm-battered clay, with a free-standing bath between the working fireplace and the four poster-bed, and a glass-walled sitting room with a discreetly equine theme that leads on to a private patio. There is stiff competition from Wild Meadow, though, which is draped in sexy blue fabrics and overlooks the restaurant’s wildflower rooftop. In the Masters, a dramatic oak A-frame props up the eaves and there is an Insta-worthy handmade bed and a free-standing tub in the bathroom. All rooms have Bamford’s in-demand lotions and potions.
